Types of LVRS Membership

Active Operational – Regular

The LVRS active operational member participates in providing emergency medical, fire and rescue services to the citizens of the greater Laurel area. 

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must be able to stand duty 12 hours overnight at the station from 7pm to 7am, one night a week, the same night every week or stand duty every Saturday from 7am to 7pm every week
  • Must be able to stand duty at the station one Sunday every 8 weeks from 7am to 7pm
  • Must attain Maryland Emergency Medical Technician certification within 18 months of joining
  • Must be able to pass the Prince George’s County Fire/EMS Department background investigation and physical.

Active Operational – Cadet

The active operational Cadet category is for our younger members.  The Cadet will participate in an operational capacity but their activities are limited. The purpose of this program is to provide young people in this age group with medical, fire and rescue training in preparation for becoming regular members when they reach the age of 18.  In addition to the invaluable training and experience which can be obtained, membership in our Cadet programs affords young people an opportunity to serve their community in a most rewarding fashion.  Their volunteer time can count towards their required community service work.

  • Must be 16 or 17 years of age
  • Must be able to stand duty 3 hours one night a week, the same night every week, from 7pm – 10pm
  • Must be able to stand duty at the station one Sunday every 8 weeks from 7am to 7pm
  • Must attain Maryland Emergency Medical Technician certification within 18 months of joining
  • Must be able to pass the Prince George’s County Fire/EMS Department background investigation and physical.

Administrative Support

LVRS is always looking for members to assist the station administratively.  We are currently looking for new administrative members to assist the Chief’s office, the Training Committee and the Membership Committee. 

Responsibilities may include:

  • Drafting correspondence and other formal documents
  • Planning and scheduling appointments and events
  • Maintaining databases and other electronic and paper records
  • Maintaining and distributing various monthly and yearly reporting requirements
  • Working on special projects which encompass research and compilation of data
  • Preparing reports, spreadsheets and presentations
  • Sorting and preparing documents for imaging and scanning
  • Meeting coordination and taking of meeting minutes
  • Creating and maintaining station checklists

Required Qualifications:

  • At least 16 years of age
  • Available to volunteer at least 6 hours a week
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work independently and exercise good judgment in handling confidential information
  • Demonstrates a high degree of professionalism
  • Must be able to pass the Prince George’s County Fire/EMS Department background investigation.
