The Monday Night Crew conducted Z-Rig training with our newest Firefighter I graduate, focusing on mechanical advantage in rescue scenarios.
What is a Z-Rig?
A Z-Rig is a 3:1 mechanical advantage pulley system used in various rescue to lift or haul heavy loads using significantly less force from rescuers.
During this evolution, crew members loaded into a Stokes basket, creating an approximate load of 900 lbs.
When pulling the red rope (direct haul with no mechanical advantage), the load did not move. After switching to the green rope with the Z-Rig system, the same load moved with noticeably less effort ![]()
This type of training ensures proper rope system setup, teamwork, and safe movement during rescue operations, and having fun while doing it ![]()
